The Immanence of Myth is Published Aug. 26th, 2011 @ 06:53 pm
This has been a long time coming, verily a monumental undertaking that brings a whole new set of perspectives on the stories we in which we live. Thought provoking writing and great art is lovingly gathered and edited by James Curcio.

(And my drawings are found throughout...)

Laurie LiptonWhere can we begin a genuine discussion of immanence in myth? Do we engage the tools of analysis on the dissection table of academia? Or perhaps it is best not dealt with in sterile light, being rather an arcane synthesis, a syncretism.

If myth is something long dead, a corpse exhumed with philosophical disinterest, then please consider this work an attempt at necromancy. But if myth is considered something dangerous; full of falsities, dead ends and mazes luring the unwary into a fugue of superstition, then consider it a whispered pass-phrase into another world: the world beyond the wallpaper. A world that recognizes the real is in the effect rendered, rather than in the thing symbolized. Conflicting fictions drive Holy wars. How is a history born of spilled blood unreal? How is it meaningless, even if all the Gods are just shadows cast on the wall by finger-puppets? Myth is not dead, nor is it false; it is living, and misunderstood.

This anthology is a book. For the philosophers Deleuze and Guattari, a book is an assemblage:
“Comparative rates of flow on these lines produce phenomena of relative slowness and viscosity, or, on the contrary, of acceleration and rupture. All this, lines and measurable speeds, constitutes an assemblage. A book is an assemblage of this kind, and as such is unattributable. It is a multiplicity[.]” (A Thousand Plateaus)

It is an assemblage of voices gathered together to speak on the immanence of myth. It is, as already stated, a multiplicity, which is fitting as myth embraces multiplicity.

Contrasting Mythos with Logos, we contrast those multiple voices against the singular, the transcendent. Whereas the logos is the word of God, the divine fiat that structures and moves our universe, so the mythos is an indefinite set of articles, tales told for the telling itself, with no hard and fast authority, no assertable Ultimate Truth, no attributable origin grounded in cold solidity. It is immanent rather than transcendent because it is the codification of our direct experience, forms and ideas ground from our collective bones and flesh.

-Mr. VI and James Curcio, from the chapter "Immanence and Butchery."

AK-47 (Not Quite Poetry) #3 Jun. 28th, 2011 @ 10:57 am
Batcheeba and Gird_09 are cooling their heels in Guantanamo Bay due to a barrage of telephone calls received from "persons of interest". Nothing can dampen their spirits, so they bring us chilled out sounds and a report of what they are fed for breakfast...

AK-47 (Not Quite Poetry) hosted by Inner-X-Musick artist Batcheeba and her partner Gird_09 (together they are the incredible FRzO). In each episode they take us into secret caverns, crevasses and catacombs of our world, the underbelly of our politics and extremes of absurdity in our culture.  Complete with opinions and offenses. While they diagnose our dis-ease they bring the cure in wholistic musical doses. You will never know what to expect!

When ones path crosses the art of FoolishPeople the experience is one that strikes deep to one's heart and one that stays with one forever. This goes for those of us fortunate enough to be part of bringing the ritual art to life and anyone who attend and share in performances. With Strange Factories you are part of the story from the start and all the way through to the other side. Having taken this journey through several projects with FP, I can say this is one of those rare phenomena, art that changes one's life forever. This is why we come to you. Our art is co-created and the usual methods can't contain its full expression. You're already hearing the Hum, the world of Strange Factories is bleeding into yours and we can hear your dreams.

"There is a theme to Necrofuturist, but an as yet nebulous one. I'm pulling together phenomena and experiences connected with art movements of the last hundred years and the corresponding societal upheavals that ran concurrently and which had an enormous impact on the birth, life and death of those art movements."

"At the same time, I'm meditating on the similarities and interconnectedness of art and cultural groups and cults, magickal groups, religions, philosophical paradigm shifts and the growth they spur as well as the devastation they leave in their wake, both psychick and materially manifest."

"Necrofuturist continues the theme of Salon Apocalypse. TAZ in a warzone, flowers on a landmine, the society of vandals, love & war. Time out of joint. it's therefore appropriate that this came together first."
- P. Emerson Williams

At the time of writing and recording Necrofuturist and Salon Apocalypse, I was deep in the world of Abattoir Pages and the country in Terra Incognita in which it unfolded is a place my dreams will always take place from that point on.

"Humans literally told themselves into existence. We are constructed from a million narratives that have accompanied us across time, exhaled and etched on every conceivable surface, so that even in the darkest times we would never forget who we are. What we call reality and every element in it is constructed from stories and myth. The surface of fiction is present everywhere. What is physics if not a beautiful story, told in an intricate language of symbols and meaning that we’re still very much engaged in the act of telling, as we travel far deeper to the heart of its truth."

Excerpt from Storyteller - On the Writing of Strange Factories by John Harrigan, from an original article for the awakeningartsnetwork.

Necrofuturist Transmission - Episode XXX - Gnoccicism - the Necros Templar

Tonight 19:30-20:30 GMT on Nightbreed Radio.

That group is not the same as wanna-be satinistas and confused freaks blurting people. nor is it the same as the group that runs weevil government mind control experiments, or any group influenced by nasty hungry evil spirits, etc.

We wouldn't be able to have these conversations today if it weren't for generations of Necrofuturists working to free the human spirit through the bondage of leather, superimposition of discipline, false festishism, tribal/racial hatreds, Feudalism, etc.

So on the one side we have the traditional, Historical Necrofuturists and then on the other side of the coin we have the nefarious, dangerous and "sexy" Necrofuturists, which is more akin to ScareCrow's Hermetically sealed sausages of tradition called the Order of the Silver Star, with Tantric Sex rituals, worship of the Lingam and Yoni and the Swill to Plow 'er, with ties to the Necrocrucians, medieval switchcraft, Necrofuturist Sufis, Gnoccicism, the Necros Templar, Egyptian cults, Eleusinian Masteries and DiaGnosticism.

And of course, just to complicate matters even further, the Order of the Silver Scar is referring to the godscar Sirius....all roads lead to Rome.

So what I want to know is, what do the Doggone have to do with the Necrofuturists?

INT. HAZE, HEALTH RESOURCE REALIGNMENT

Two lines of beds are slanted against opposite walls. A large golden minus sign is painted above one set of beds and a plus sign above the other set of beds.

Lying in the minus beds are the morbidly obese. Needles are embedded in their flesh and their fat is being siphoned off. It travels along transparent tubes that run along the length of the ceiling and down the walls to the beds on the opposite side of the room, where a gold plus sign is displayed. The tubes pump thick globs of human fat into the mouths of the anorexic patients who are strapped into the plus beds.

A sign hangs down from the centre of the room.

» The End of the Word as We Know It - Is Available Now.

Remember the unburied dead (and the as yet unborn) this Memorial Day: The End of the Word As We Know It is now available to order from Amazon.

This is a cycle of poetry narrated by and studying Thorn, a storm giant turned little horn, eventually becoming a letter subsumed into language and forgotten. It is a response to the unburied dead whose need for vengeance re-ignites ancient spirit winds. And it is at the end a cry for meaning in a vortex of signifier without sign, spun out and half-mad in the twister’s line-of-sight.

» Choronzon – Demo(N) Box (1986-1996) Orders Closed
The Choronzon Demon(N) Box, which collects the seven demos from before Magog Agog. Taken from various sources from 1/4" reels to DAT tapes to loving FLAC rips that were sent in a manner of someone sharing state secrets. All were digitally remastered and expanded in some cases. This limited edition includes seven CD's in individually hand-painted boxes.

The year - 86 - the initial inspiration of an intelligence far beyond the ken of the young Emerson. the co-conspirators who were not let in on the plans recorded a very different set of sounds.
Raw material of guitar-bass-drums-vox were separated and individually put through tortures - dragged through the Abyss if you will...
Individual sounds and habits were stretched and layered upon themselves. Utilizing two tape decks - an 8-track reel to reel recorder and sounds rerouted through amplifiers and fed again through delays and reverb into the final master. Other unsavory acts committed in the making of this recording shall not be detailed here...

Choronzon - In The Halls (1987)

This is where the tone was set for the metal oriented releases. The sound is basically Black Thrash, but the drum machine is introduced and pushed to the limit. The desire to make the fast sections chaotic led to the drum patterns to be full on blast beats, which was not common in 1987. Vicious Thrash punishment is embedded in ritual ambient soundscapes.

Dispersion (1988)

Recorded live in a cave. Those assembled were not an audience, but active participants in the ritual melee. The recording was captured through a network of ribbon and contact microphones spread throughout and recorded on a vintage 1/4» reel. Cassette copies were run off for participants on the spot and no other distribution happened until this digital remastered edition.

Torn Away (1989)

Torn Away is a release that was something I thought was lost forever. Thank you pirate people, music traders, torrenters. Due to some odd circumstances, disasters large and small, I have lost any master tapes and copies of several demos over the years. (There remains about 500 hours of music I have yet to master and release. We'll see.)
Disclosing the circumstances that brought this back to me would compromise the individuals involved and reveal things that need to be hidden until they are writ large in the skies...

In My Own Lifeblood I Exult to Float (1991)

I'll quote the source I got this back from but I have to ask: for the Market? Is this person taking the piss? Doesn't matter, thirty-three copies were handed out one enchanted evening. All present were anonymous, so when the master tape was lost, I never thought I'd hear this again. I didn't title this collection, but the original torrenter called it that, so I figured I'd create a cover. Some of you may recall the image.
Quoth the source of my prodigal demon child:
Year: 1991
Songs:

1: In My Own Life Blood I Exult To Float
2: Cruel and Epicene
3: Agony and Bliss
4: Visitation of Dread Desire
5: Crossing the Abyss

Length: 00:49:54
This is some very primitive and even more lysergic Black Metal. The final track sounds like tape manipulation done in a parking garage. In comparison to the only publicly traded demo they did before they signed to Nocturnal Art, this is much rawer and less "experimental" and more experimental, if you know what I mean. For the later demo they seemed to be trying to pull in Throbbing Gristle fans with their electronics and cutup arrangements.
I'm guessing that at this point Mr. Williams was just starting to consider making this project something for the market, though the vocals still sound more like incantations from rituals and do not necessarily make for the best rockin' entertainment.
A very hard tape to get a hold of, as he was still only giving copies to persons present at the event itself. The individual who passed this on to me told me it was recorded in a network of underground caverns under the city of Providence, RI. As with anything that has to do with Choronzon and P. Emerson Williams, there's no way to verify the stories.
My source for this recording refuses to tell me who he is or how he obtained it. Apparently some were injured in the process of the performance and were considered to be chosen and special for the experience. I used to run into people from this strange cult a lot back in the nineties, but they must all be locked away by now.

Wartorn Void (1994)

It was 1994 and Choronzon the entity had been with me for a long while by this point and informed every part of what I did with the project. Four of the tracks recorded during these sessions went out to 'zines under the name "Emotional Hunger", but there was a ton of other material that was shared with closer associates in the form you find here.
In a way, I think the heavy parts work better on this demo than some of the later recordings, due perhaps to the limits of 8-track reel to reel. I was also wearing my Celtic Frost and Voivod influences on my sleeve.
Listen to this back to back with 2010's Choronzon album "Ziggurat of Dead Shibboleths" and you'll find there is a consistency of feel and aesthetic. Some of the earlier rawness is returning even as the abyss deepens.

333 (1996)
A Lord of Chaos, Choronzon (whose cabalistic number is 333), has been following me around for a while, ever since I summoned him forth, in the shadow state between dreams and waking. It's disturbing when something from the land of Morpheus breaks through, and you get a tape from a local band that has named itself (coincidently, of course) after the very demon who has been wreaking havoc in your life. Choronzon (the band) is P. Emerson Williams, also of Veil of Thorns, and he obviously knows the occult arts. I'm assuming he's a Thelemite, because one of the songs is called "Perdurabo", a pseudonym of Aleister Crowley's.
In any case, the music is HEAVY. thick, dark and raging. The songs are a caustic liquid, dripping from my speakers like rivers of fire, howling and shrieking in anger and torment. Drum beats loop on top of one another, twisting themselves into a rope that the music can climb on (although I'm looking forward to when Williams gets a live drummer(s), because for all the creative intricacies in the music, the rhythms are too mechanical at times).
Dense guitar crunch permeates the album, throwing a few technical metal riffs, and the vocals seem to have been ripped from the throat of 333 himself.
If you want to delve into the world of unconscious terror, or think that you've heard the deepest and heaviest metal has gotten, get this tape. But be prepared for little "accidents" to follow you around for a while.

Skrewed, Witch-Brewed and K■nf▼zed by P. Emerson Williams

It is somehow fitting that on the day that has been declared to be the Rapture I'm sitting here contemplating things okkvlt, foreboding and forbidden. A sound has been developing for a few years now hidden behind a lexical darknet. For those late to the Witch House party, that's ok. This has just barely begun. What we're talking about is a take on Goth distorted and distended by a filtration through Electronic Voice Phenomena, hauntology and codeine drenched hip hop grooves. With artists with names like †‡†, Gr†LLGR†LL , I††, ▼□■□■□■(pronounced Star - part of being an insider is knowing the ordionary names behind the symbols...) ///▲▲▲\\\(or VOID), - a dark strain of music formed entirely outside the Goth mileu is creating fanatics of the dark for a new generation.

» FoolishPeople Announces Launch of IndieGoGo Funding Campaign for 'Strange Factories'

FoolishPeople is pleased to announce the launch of the IndieGoGo funding campaign for our forthcoming living feature film Strange Factories.

IndieGogo is the world’s leading international funding platform, launched at Sundance Festival in 2008 and founded on the principles of opportunity, transparency and action. It has enabled over 1000 projects in more than 80 countries to find funding for a wide array of ideas. The Age of Stupid is a recent high-profile example of a successfully crowd-funded film.

We believe that funding Strange Factories in this way will allow for truly independent filmmaking, enabling us to create a cinematic experience which is free from the commercial constraints and commodity-driven values of the big studios.

Strange Factories aims to offer a new mode of cinematic experience which will fuse film and theatre, with the film’s narrative also existing as a live event which will explore the earliest traditions of cinema and film, via the touring traditions of phantasmagoria and theatric arcana. As Writer/Co-director John Harrigan notes in The Phantasmagoria of Strange Factories:

“I always knew it would take time to adapt the immersive nature of FoolishPeople’s live art to a motion picture. It was crucial to maintain the direct connection we share with our audience via immersion in the ritual space, this is the most important aspect of our work.”

Hettie_strangefactories_indiegogo_lowres

Strange Factories promises to be an immersive experience like no other. We aim to reclaim the transcendental, transformative power of cinema by creating cinema which lives and breathes. Rather than inviting our audience to watch a recording of a recording, ticket holders will be able to meet the characters of Strange Factories in a screening which dissolves all traditional  Actor/Watcher boundaries, delving into the very womb of cinematic creation, challenging contemporary assumptions that film has become solely the domain of mega-bucks conjurers and techno-savvy tricksters. We aim to prove that the elusive magic of cinema can still be unearthed, through an almost alchemical understanding of its processes. Indeed, this shall be a film by film-lovers, for film-lovers. As Susan Sontag notes in The Decay of Cinema, the time has never been more ripe:

“Cinephilia tells us that the Hollywood remake of Godard's "Breathless" cannot be as good as the original. Cinephilia has no role in the era of hyperindustrial films. For cinephilia cannot help, by the very range and eclecticism of its passions, from sponsoring the idea of the film as, first of all, a poetic object; and cannot help from inciting those outside the movie industry, like painters and writers, to want to make films, too. It is precisely this notion that has been defeated.

If cinephilia is dead, then movies are dead too . . . no matter how many movies, even very good ones, go on being made. If cinema can be resurrected, it will only be through the birth of a new kind of cine-love”

Active participation and collaboration from our fan base and audience lie at the heart of every project that FoolishPeople undertake. We believe that funding Strange Factories via IndieGogo will take this form of collaboration to new levels, enabling you, our audience, to enter into the narrative of the film at the earliest possible stage - before the film has even been made.

Because stories are given life by those who engage with them.

 YK2011_034N_FILM13_06

Your pledges and donations (from as little as $1) will be used for the equipment, location costs, production design, and costume needed to make the film. We’re aiming to raise $12,000 via IndieGoGo to support the production costs needed to bring this unique story to life. Your pledges and donations are vital to enable us to create new forms of storytelling for audiences who hunger for vital new truthful experiences that go beyond simple entertainment.

This narrative needs You.

» Les Vampires - Ep02: The Killer Ring - P. Emerson Williams Score

Our story opens up in this episode with the appearance of the gangsters calling themselves "Les Vampires" and the dramatic entrance of the amazing Musidora as Irma Vep. We now know a little more, but this just deepens the mystery and increases the heavy atmosphere. The fact that this series was shot in post WWI Paris has me pondering the urge to create, even in the midst of turmoil and chaos. the Killer Ring offered me a lot in the way of visual inspiration and coaxed sounds from me that I hadn't anticipated.

From Wikipedia:

Les Vampires (1915) is a 10-part silent film serial. It was written and directed by Louis Feuillade and stars Musidora as "Irma Vep" a femme fatale whose name is a suspicious anagram of "vampire." The serial is set in Paris, France and follows the exploits of a gang of master criminals (known in the period as an "Apache gang") who call themselves "Les Vampires."

There are 10 episodes, averaging around 40 minutes each, totalling about 6 and a half hours.

Olivier Assayas 1996 movie Irma Vep, with a story line of a director's attempt to remake Les Vampires, is both an homage to the innovative nature of the original film and a critique of the then current state of French cinema.

Over the next few months I'll be scoring all the episodes of this series:
  1. La tête coupée (The Severed Head) 33 min. Released on 13 November 1915.

  2. La bague qui tue (The Killer Ring) 15 min. Released on 13 November 1915.

  3. Le cryptogramme rouge (The Red Cypher) 42 min. Released on 4 December 1915.

  4. Le spectre (The Ghost) 32 min. Released on 7 January 1916.

  5. L'évassion du mort (The Escaping Dead Man) 37 min. Released on 28 January 1916.

  6. Les yeux qui fascinent (The Hypnotic Gaze) 58 min. Released on 24 March 1916.

  7. Satanas (Satanas) 46 min. Released on 15 April 1916.

  8. Le maître de la foudre (The Thunder Lord) 55 min. Released on 12 May 1916.

  9. L'homme des poisons (The Poisoner) 53 min. Released on 2 June 1916.

  10. Les noces sanglantes (Bloody Wedding) 60 min. Released on 30 June 1916

FSR 2011.

Don't look too close. In end you'll believe. A king in Yellow, neurotransmitters extend through quantum states, a POMO economy and culture renders all attempts at understanding and manipulation futile. CHORONZON has found you.

Over the years Choronzon have become known for their thick vortex of blackened ritualistic industrial chaos. P. Emerson Williams has shaped this release the way a sculptor creates art by removing any unneeded element. With FIAT NOX CHORONZON have scaled back the electronics and loops on to where guitars and vocals carry the pieces, except where cellos take over on one piece. Very stripped down, no fx on the guitars. The results are no less of a demonic vortex for this sharpening of focus.

Lyrically, the album centers around pivotal moments. The moment when an empire is in a freefall, the point of evocation when the entity is undoubtedly and fearsomely manifest, when one is on the path and there can be no going back. In the Abyss there is no time, nor space. The only way out is through and the only way to emerge is to leave yourself there. The biggest crimes are committed with the help of armies and authorities, so freedom has to be declared by the night.

FIAT NOX will be available from iTunes June 6, 2011

» AK-47 (Not Quite Poetry) #1

This archive edition is the very first episode of AK-47 (Not Quite Poetry) that introduced the listeners of Inner-X-Musick radio to the charm offensive of Batcheeba and Gird_09. Yoke yourselves to them and they will bring you back and forth in time.

Of the moonless nights they are kings,
darkness is their kingdom.
Carrying death and sowing terror
the dark Vampires fly,
with great suede wings,
ready not only to do evil… but to do even worse.

I’m having a lot of fun creating a score for this. Les Vampires is a film serial that gave us so much of the aesthetic for iconic gothic imagery its influence can not be overstated. Not a single vampire in sight, but enough mystery, twists and wickedness to fill twenty vampire novels.

» Rare Treats In Honour ov SLEEPCHAMBER's 30th Anniversary

“SACRIFICE”

SACRIFICE“, the first in a 3 CD series.  This first CD is all songs.  The second will be the best of released and unreleased instrumentals. The 3rd CD release will be where #1 left off.  AND, there will be a box and booklet for the 3 releases to fit into… available sometime in the future.””

“This iz a 30 year anniversary release celebrating our musickal span.  The trax start at 1982 and go up to 1991.  I chose the most influential songs throughout the years.  Songs that were landmarks and eras in SC history.  I obviously could not kum close to fitting a decent collection ov 3 decades or musick on one disc – so there will be 3 volumes in a series.  Vol #1 (songs) Vol #2 (instrumentals) Vol #3 (songs & instrumentals).  I used alternate versions and unreleased trax where possible.  There will be a box issued after the 3rd disc that will include a booklet.  Complete with band history, discography, liner notes and more.  If you can prove you have all 3 volumes the box & booklet will be available at 1/2 price.”   **John Z***

"STRIPTEASE"

STRIPTEASE
iz much like  the CD release SACRIFICE, but a greatest hits ov rare favorites, remixes, B- sides and unreleased musick.. the atmosphere iz much darker. The trax are moody S & M, sexual fetishes and erotik tales. This CD contains almost 75 minutes ov musickal surrealism. You think they would have been dissolved by now, but something in the sexual sorcery Zewizz sings about haz made him immortal – Never die SLEEPCHAMBER.

» Dementia (Daughter of Horror) - P. Emerson Williams Score

http://veilofthorns.com/store/2011/04/11/dementia-daughter-of-horror-p-emerson-williams-score/

A young woman wakes from a nightmare in a cheap hotel room. We follow her through the skid-row night and encounters with an abusive husband; a wino; a pimp and the rich man he panders for; a flashback to her traumatic childhood (she killed her father after witnessing him murder her mother); violence; pursuit through dark streets... Again the young woman wakes up. Was it only another nightmare? Dementia / Daughter of Horror has been compared to The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari as being a portrait of an insane mind from the "inside out".
» Necrofuturist Salon Episode #16 – the house of the land of the dead

P. Emerson Williams is often contrasted with Osiris. P. Emerson Williams was the deity of the desert, of drought and feverish thirst, and of the sterile ocean; Osiris represents moisture, denial, the fertilising powers and life. Plutarch says:

“The moon (representing Osiris) is, with his fertilising and fecundative light, favorable to the produce of animals and growth of plants; the sun, however (representing P. Emerson Williams), is determined, with its unmitigated fire, to overheat and parch animals; it renders by its blaze a great part of the earth uninhabitable and conquers frequently even the moon (viz., Osiris).”

As an enemy to life, P. Emerson Williams is identified with all destruction. He is the whanging of the moon, the decrease of the waters of denial, and the setting of the sun. Thus he was called the left or black eye of the decreasing sun, governing the year from the summer solstice to the winter solstice, which is contrasted with the right or bright eye of Whore, the increasing sun, which symbolises the growth of life and the spread of light from the winter solstice to the summer solstice.
